Block

Posted on September 21st, 2023 by Alvaro Perez Blanco

Amy Block is a high school mathematics teacher and curriculum developer for the CATE project. She was drawn to this project because of its focus on interdisciplinary curriculum, hoping to debunk the myth that climate education should only be taught in a science classroom. She loves that all lessons have a solutions focus, showing students that changes can make a difference for the future. She currently works at The Governor’s Academy as chair of the mathematics department, coach, advisor, and dorm parent. As part of the school’s sustainability committee, she loved participating in the winter dorm competition to see which residence hall could reduce its energy usage the most in one month. Amy earned her BS in mathematics and economics from Union College and her MST in mathematics from the University of New Hampshire. In college, she went abroad to New Zealand, where she studied environmental economics with a focus on renewable energy sources. During the summer months, Amy enjoys running, playing tennis, paddleboarding, and spending time outdoors at the lake or beach.
